When suspending Manga's membership, São Paulo councilor André Santos, who presides over the Ethics Council of the Republicans, stated that "the seriousness of the conduct is substantially aggravated by the institutional position of the person represented".
This Wednesday's decision, the 15th, suspends Manga's membership until the conclusion of the process at the acronym's Ethics Council. The mayor was also asked to present his defense within five days.
The representation against Manga is filed by Atílio Francisco, former councilor of São Paulo. In the petition, Francisco states that the acronym's statute provides for punishment for anyone who "clearly or privately supports a candidate from another party." The former councilor asks that the mayor of Sorocaba be expelled from the party.
"Propaganda for a political opponent is, without a doubt, an extremely serious conduct, which undermines trust and exposes the party", says the representation.
When contacted, Rodrigo Manga did not respond. The space is open for manifestation.
Known as the "tiktoker" mayor, Manga has 3.4 million followers on the platform and another 4 million on Instagram.
He was re-elected mayor of Sorocaba, in 2024, with 73% of the votes. The court removed him from his position in November 2025 on a precautionary basis, on the grounds that he could hinder investigations into alleged deviations in the municipality's health sector.
In March 2026, an injunction from the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Nunes Marques returned Manga to the position. The decision was later confirmed by the Second Panel of the Court.
The case is still open. Manga was charged by the Regional Attorney's Office for criminal organization, money laundering, passive corruption, embezzlement, illegal contracting and bid fraud. The complaint is based on Operation Copy and Paste of the Federal Police (PF). His defense refutes the accusations.
