SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - Meghan Markle became the target of criticism on social media after being announced as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. The Duchess of Sussex will participate in the episode that will air on July 26, but the confirmation displeased part of the public, who questioned her presence in one of the most popular gastronomic realities in the country. Many promised to boycott the attraction.

The participation was announced by Network 10, which released images of Meghan alongside regular judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin and Jean-Christophe Novelli. In a post on social media, the channel stated that the former actress will bring "her love for cooking, for welcoming guests and for seasonal ingredients" to the program in one of the season's challenges.

In a statement, Meghan said she accepted the invitation because it brought together two of her passions. "What drew me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy 'yes'," he said. She also stated that she felt "truly honored" to be part of the program and evaluate the dishes prepared by the contestants.

According to Paramount Skydance, owner of Network 10, Meghan will lead a test in which participants must create recipes inspired by seasonal ingredients and personal stories.

The company reinforced that the invitation is related to the duchess's interest in gastronomy, remembering recent projects such as the Netflix series "Com Amor, Meghan", and her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

The justification, however, did not convince some of the reality fans. In the comments on the official publication, internet users criticized the guest's choice. "Definitely not watching," one user wrote. "She's not a chef," commented another. "First time since the start of the program that I'm not going to watch it," said a third.

Meghan's appearance was recorded months ago and will focus on creating a "dish fit for a duchess", prepared with ingredients such as Australian honey, apples, lemons, strawberries and macadamia nuts.

In addition to the technical execution, competitors will also be encouraged to tell stories linked to the chosen foods, a proposal that seeks to bring cooking closer to personal memories and experiences.
