SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - A 33-year-old man died after falling while climbing in Big Bear, California, leaving his wife pregnant.

Andrew Paul Ferrarone of San Diego was in the accident on July 12 and was hospitalized for days. He died on July 15 after about a week in the hospital, according to an obituary and a GoFundMe campaign.

The fall was about six meters and caused head trauma, according to local authorities. The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper reported that the case was handled by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Ferrarone's wife is eight weeks pregnant and is now preparing to welcome the baby without her husband. The fundraising page states that she "now faces the challenge of preparing for motherhood alone."

Friends opened a fundraiser to help the family with immediate costs after the death. "Donations will help Nina cover Andy's life support medical bills, pay rent, and purchase essential baby supplies and necessities for her first year of motherhood," it reads.

Ferrarone grew up in Philadelphia and worked as a software engineer. In the obituary, he is described as "an accomplished and widely respected software engineer."

Friends say the couple was known for the way they welcomed people and the relationship between the two. According to them, "they were known for their warmth and outgoing spirit, and the love they shared touched everyone around them."
