In an interview with the podcast Tantos Tempos, she spoke about discovering bisexuality at age 50 and stated that she never saw the decision to make her sexual orientation public as an act of courage, but as a natural consequence of living one's own truth.

During the conversation, Leilane said that the change happened after two marriages with men and said that the experience revealed to her a possibility that she was unaware of until then. In a good-humored tone, he summarized the discovery: "I have nothing against men, it's just that I didn't know about some other wonderful thing that, suddenly, at 50 years old, I discovered."
The journalist also refuted the idea that she had been "courageous" to publicly reveal her relationships with women. "First of all, I'm not brave. I pay my bills, I take care of my own life, I own my nose since I was 19 years old. I'm not going to live at 50 in hiding, 'but what will the company think?'", she said.
Leilane revealed that her only concern was for her two children. At the time, she was going through a difficult period after separating from her second husband, with whom she remained married for 22 years, but her children noticed her change in mood when she fell in love again.
"I was in a sad phase and, suddenly, my children started to see me very happy. Then there was a day when I said: 'Sit here, mom will tell you why she's happy'. I was 50 years old and they were in their 20s. And I said I was in love with a girl", he recalled.
The journalist's love life returned to the spotlight at the turn of 2025 to 2026, when she decided to make her relationship with Mari Pitta public. Until then, the two maintained their relationship discreetly. When celebrating the New Year on social media, Leilane shared a photo with her partner and wrote: "I know the importance of having health, a loving family, dear friends and great love."
An architect by training, Mari Pitta works as a lighting designer and technical director of shows and has worked on productions by artists such as Maria Bethânia, Ludmilla, Iza, MC Cabelinho and Pedro Sampaio. Before her current relationship, Leilane's last relationship that became public was with project manager Gaia Maria, with whom she remained for around two years.
