Iran today threatened to abandon the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States in June if Washington does not fulfill the commitments made to end the war. "Whenever the other party fails to fulfill its obligations, we also fail to fulfill ours (...) We will continue to act in the same way", declared the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, during a press conference in Tehran.

The United States has bombed Iran once again, and Tehran retaliated today by attacking Washington's regional allies --- actions of an unprecedented scale by both sides since the April 8 ceasefire.

The cause of the new hostilities focused on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran seeks to maintain control of the maritime route established in the early days of the war.

The announcement made by the Islamic Republic over the weekend, stating that it would once again close the global strategic route for the transport of oil and gas, caused a sharp rise in oil prices.

North Sea Brent oil for delivery in September --- the international benchmark --- rose more than 4%, reaching $79.13.

After almost 40 days of bombings in a conflict triggered by attacks from Israel and the United States on February 28, a ceasefire had come into force in April and was later formalized on June 17 through a memorandum of understanding signed by Washington and Tehran, despite sporadic clashes in the vicinity of the strait.

However, after attacks last Tuesday against vessels trying to pass through Hormuz, clashes resumed with intensity.
