Madonna scores tenth album at the top of Billboard with 'Confessions II'
SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - Singer Madonna achieved new records with the release of "Confessions II". Released in early July, the album reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart, marking the singer's tenth album to...
With this feat, Madonna becomes the first artist to have number one albums in the 2020s and in three other different decades: 1980 (three albums), 2000 (four) and 2010 (two).
"Like a Preyer" (1989) was the singer's album that spent the most time in first position, totaling six weeks. The list continues with "True Blue" (1986) with five and "Like a Virgin" (1985) with three.
"Music" (2000), "American Life" (2003), "Confessions on a Dance Floor" (2005), "Hard Candy" (2008), "MDNA" (2012) and "Madame X" (2019) each spent one week.
The new album was also well received in sales. There were 134 thousand copies, a number that easily surpassed the 95 thousand units sold by "Madame X" (2019), Madonna's previous album - even though this total had already been enough to take her to first place at the time.
According to Billboard, the new album also became Madonna's 13th album to reach number one in the United Kingdom.
"Confessions II", his fifteenth studio album, is a sequel to "Confessions on a Dance Floor", marked by dance music and electropop. Despite the direct connection with that work, the new album is far from being a repetition of what the singer has already done: the songs revere the past, but have roots in the present and eyes focused on the future. Proof of this are the artists with whom the pop star chose to work.
The album's first single features pop music's new darling, Sabrina Carpenter, who lends her angelic vocals to "Bring Your Love." The album also features a partnership with DJ Martin Garrix, one of the hottest names in the electronic scene today, on the song "Bizarre".
