It all happened when the 42-year-old woman kissed the man and took out a piece of his tongue. He then deliberately ran him over when he tried to flee the scene, explains the French press.
A pedestrian witnessed the conflict and says the couple was fighting. "Many insults were exchanged, especially from the man to the woman. The discussions were very heated and both appeared to be under the influence of alcohol," he said.
The accident would have occurred at 02:00 local time on Monday and, according to the first conclusions of the investigation, it would have all started with an argument in the street and the situation worsened.
Stéphane Patché, departmental secretary of the Alliance Police National union, said both the woman and the man are known to the police. He also highlighted that authorities were waiting for the woman to sober up "to determine the circumstances and reasons that led her to act that way."
"We are currently dealing with attempted murder against a spouse, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as acts of torture and extreme violence."
The man, who was treated at the scene by firefighters, was transported to the Southern University Hospital while the woman was detained. The police highlighted that they are investigating the case.
