SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - The Federal Police launched an operation this Tuesday (4) to investigate a group suspected of defrauding the Post Office by simulating theft and theft of packages, in a scheme that would have generated undue compensation to the state-owned company.

Named Operation Tabellari, the action served ten preventive arrest warrants and ten search and seizure warrants in São Paulo. According to the PF, those being investigated could be held liable for criminal association, embezzlement, embezzlement and reception.

According to the investigation, the group used third-party personal data to purchase products on e-commerce platforms. The goods were sent to fictitious recipients linked to shell companies.

The suspicion is that public employees involved in the scheme simulated theft and robbery during the delivery of orders, allowing insurance to be taken out and compensation to be paid irregularly.

In a note to the report, the state-owned company stated that the operation is the result of a joint action between the Correios security area and the Federal Police. According to the company, authorities were called after internal monitoring identified "suspicious attitudes".

Correios also reported that it has been increasing investments in intelligence and security to prevent crimes against postal services and that it maintains a partnership with the competent bodies to combat this type of incident.

The company, however, said it will not disclose details of the operation as it is a security-related issue and conducted by the Federal Police.

Sought by Folha to provide additional information, the PF also did not inform the Correios of the amount of the loss nor did it detail the period of activity of the investigated group.
