Father denies Neymar's retirement from the national team and says 'World Cup is in 4 years'

The father of Santos' number 10 highlighted that the topic is still a question. In an interview with journalists at the Instituto Neymar Jr. charity auction, he said that 'the World Cup is in 4 years' and that his son said he 'thinks' he doesn't want it.

"You're misinformed. He said 'I think it's over for me'. He thinks so. We just came out of a World Cup, which was difficult for everyone? We're talking about a new World Cup in four years and you want him to have an answer today?", said Neymar Pai, upon arrival at the Neymar Jr Institute's charity auction.

Last week, Neymar said that his moment in the national team 'has already passed'. The speech took place on his return to Santos after Brazil's elimination from the World Cup, in the round of 16, against Norway.

"I thank [Lucas Moura], but there won't be any. My moment in the Brazilian team, I think it's over. I made history there and I'm very happy. I experienced a lot of things there. I gave my blood and my life, I always fought for hopscotch, but I don't think I want it anymore", said Neymar, in the mixed zone, after Santos x UCV.

The star's father stated that his son followed his heart in his statement. "He will say what he feels, what his heart feels. He thinks that, today, the Selection is finished. But it's a 'I think'. He thinks so," he added.
