Cyril Blais, head of Citroën in Formula E, dies aged 46

The cause was not disclosed. In a joint statement, the FIA, Stellantis, Formula E, Citroën Racing and Monaco Sports Group said they would not provide further details out of respect for the family.

Xavier Chardon, executive director of Citroën, and Olivier Jansonnie, vice-president of Stellantis Motorsport, highlighted Blais' importance for the automaker's Formula E project.

Jeff Dodds, executive director of the category, stated that the entire paddock is united in this moment of mourning and assured that the engineer will receive a tribute during the Tokyo ePrix, in Japan, scheduled for next weekend.

The president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, also mourned the death and highlighted Cyril Blais' dedication to motorsport, in addition to the respect and admiration gained throughout his career. According to him, the Frenchman left a lasting mark on everyone who worked alongside him.

Beth Paretta, Citroën's Formula E director, stated that the team will respect the family's wishes and continue competing in the engineer's memory.

“We will honor him in the best way possible, continuing to compete with the same dedication and passion that he transmitted to all of us”, he declared.

In its debut season, Citroën is facing difficulties in Formula E. Nick Cassidy is the team's best-placed driver, in ninth position, with one victory and three podiums. Jean-Eric Vergne appears in 14th and achieved his first podium of the season a few days ago, in the second race held in Shanghai.
