Convicted of sexual harassment, Virginia's brother breaks his silence
William Gusmão, brother of influencer Virginia Fonseca, spoke out for the first time after being convicted of sexual harassment by the Goiás Court of Justice. In videos published on social media he denied the...
The conviction was handed down by the 4th Panel of the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Goiás. William received a sentence of one year in prison for one of the episodes reported by Lilly Martins, who accused him of sexual harassment during a party held in 2023, in Jussara, in the interior of Goiás.
According to the complaint, the woman stated that she asked for a photo with William and, during the meeting, he put his hand down her pants and felt her buttocks.
When commenting on the case, William presented a different version of the facts. According to him, he only posed for photos with the complainant and kept his hands on her back during the recordings.
"She asked to take a photo with me. I put my hand on her back. She said the photo wasn't good and asked for another. We took three photos. Then I went to a corner with a friend and she came back accompanied by another girl who started filming while she cursed my mother and sister", he reported.
William stated that he realized the woman's supposed intention to create a situation against him and said he decided to leave the place.
According to the businessman, the complainant had tried to get physically closer at different times during the party.
"She put her face in front of me as if she wanted to kiss me. I got scared and walked away. Then she came back several times. There is a video in which I have my arms open precisely because I didn't want to touch her," he declared.
He also questioned the woman's attitude after the episode.
"If she had really been harassed, she could have called the security guards. She was worried about recording everything and sending the videos to Leo Dias. I was the one who was harassed," he stated.
At the time of the complaint, images released by journalist Leo Dias showed William apparently approaching the young woman during the party. At that time, his current wife, Mellody Barreto, was pregnant with the couple's first child.
The businessman's defense informed that he will appeal the conviction to the higher courts. In a video released on social media, lawyer Giuliano Vettori stated that the decision is not yet final.
"Brazilian legislation only considers someone guilty when there is no longer any possibility of appeal. In William's case, appeals are still possible," he said.
The lawyer also stated that the Public Prosecutor's Office had agreed to acquit the businessman in both the first and second instances, as they understood that there was not sufficient evidence of the crime.
In a statement, the lawyers reiterated that William denies the accusations, classified the conviction as incompatible with the evidence gathered in the process and reinforced that the defense will use all the resources provided for in the legislation.
