Back in 'Jogada de Risco', Marcos Frota now targets soap operas: 'Crazy to call me'

Despite the character's mistakes, he makes a point of defending Valdemar, stating that there is no evil or hatred between the two. The actor said that he proposed a change in his relationship with his son, encouraging Cauã to make Maurício show more compassion and patience for his father.

"I tried to humanize him. It's difficult and it's nice to play a loser", says Frota. "People are watching the winner and I wanted to show a loser, a father who raised his son badly, who made bad choices, but who truly loves that son. I got it into my head that Valdemar did the best he knew how."

The world of football also brought the actor closer to the project. Before pursuing his artistic career, he played for the youth teams of Juventus da Mooca, Palmeiras and Santos, a club he still supports today.

He had to abandon his dream of becoming a professional player, as he was unable to balance his studies with training. When he stepped on stage, however, he understood that he could take his passion for football to dramaturgy.

"When I came to the theater, in 'Feliz Ano Velho' [based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva], I remember that Paulo Betti said to me: 'Marcos, bring to the stage the joy you felt playing football' and, despite me playing a quadriplegic boy, the character had a life, a light, and that was a great tip for my interpretation", he recalled.

After ten years away from television, Frota celebrates his return. "I'm happy, I think I'm coming back at the right time," he said. "I'm happy with this new generation at Globo too, with new possibilities, a new cast, new idols."

"I went back to record, I looked and got emotional, I ran my hand over the walls. I remember when it was a vacant lot," he said, emotionally. "Today is a reality, one of the most important things in the world. This is kept in my heart."

In addition to his gratitude for being part of the history of Brazilian television, Frota is also an inveterate soap opera fan, one of those who say without hesitation that Brazilian television drama is "giant" and that it should be exported to all corners of the planet.

When asked if he wants to return to soap operas, he was emphatic. "At 70 years old, reinvigorated, happy in life and with all my dreams fulfilled, I think it's time," he replied.

“I want deeper characters now, to deal with denser plots, to provoke reflections,” he commented. "I think I'm ready. Take, for example, Tony Ramos in 'Quem Ama Cuida'; he is completely committed. I want to live this, I'm dying to be called."
