Born in Serra dos Carajás, the animal turned six months old and belongs to a species considered threatened with extinction. The name Xingu was chosen after a popular vote held in March this year. ? "Xingu's birth was another milestone for the conservation of the species. Now he has reached an age where he can learn from his mother. The expansion of space allows him to explore the environment more and learn important steps from his mother", he explained. During the special holiday program, visitors will be able to participate in activities such as biojewelry and seed bomb workshops, mask painting, ecobag customization, educational games and capoeira presentation. The cub ? Xingu is the seventh jaguar cub born at BioParque in the last 12 years and the third with cerrado genetics. He is the son of Marília and Zezé - see the other births below: 2014: Thor and Pandora (Amazonian genetics) 2016: Sheila and Leila (melanic, also Amazonian) 2022: Rhudá and Rhuana (Cerrado genetics) At this stage, Xingu goes through a period of discoveries, learning to swim, climb, run and sharpen his nails on the trunks, always accompanied by his mother and monitored by the technical team. Adaptation to the larger space occurs gradually, at specific times, respecting the puppy's behavior. Xingu, a jaguar cub, will be presented to the public for the first time in Pará. Disclosure Marília, Xingu's mother, was rescued from illegal captivity. Zezé was born in an institution in Goiás and is descended from animals taken from an irregular situation. Because they lived under human influence, neither of them can return to nature. Currently, the couple and their cub are part of the park's squad and contribute to raising awareness about animal trafficking and the importance of preserving the species. The space ? BioParque Vale Amazônia has already recorded the birth of several species threatened with extinction, such as the ararajuba, blue macaw, jacupiranga, common curassow, harpy eagle, jaguar, puma, peccary, peccary, red-handed howler monkey and tapir. The site has 29 enclosures that house felines, primates, reptiles and birds. Among the attractions are the entomological collection room, with around 1,100 specimens of forest insects, as well as an anthill and immersion aviary. The BioParque operates from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9am to 4pm, and is located within the Carajás National Forest, an environmental conservation unit managed by ICMBio.
