The rescued man was identified as Osvaldo Barea, 80 years old, and the rescuer as Edegar Passari. According to Edegar, Osvaldo was driving along a road that crosses the Machado River, in the community of São João Batista, close to his company, when the water level rose and swept the vehicle away. “I was scared, I soon arrived and called an employee to come and pick him up,” says Edegar.
