Initially, the teenagers said they had bought the car from José Edson. As the investigation progressed, the DIG gathered images, license plate reading data and information about the vehicle's route. After that, the teenagers were interviewed again and confessed their involvement in the case. "We were able to identify that, in fact, it was one of these teenagers who requested the race via the app. In other words, he has already denied the teenagers' version", said the delegate. According to the Civil Police, the teenagers said they did not intend to kill José Edson, but rather to steal his car and any belongings. Police are still investigating whether the driver was thrown into the river alive. The Civil Police still cannot confirm whether José Edson was already dead when he was thrown into the Rio Pardo. According to the delegate, the teenagers reported that the victim regained consciousness at a certain point and was attacked again with the same blow. "They thought the victim was dead. We don't know what that's like. As soon as the body is found, it will be sent to the IML, and then the expert will say whether it was thrown alive or not," he said.
