The sentence must initially be served in a closed regime. In addition to the prison sentence, the convicted person must also pay 100 UFESPs, as provided for by state legislation, the equivalent of R$3,842.00 in 2026. The 2-year-old boy was taken to the city's Regional Hospital with several injuries to his body, but he did not survive the injuries. As there were signs of violence, hospital employees called the Civil Police. Initially, the case was registered as a suspicious death resulting from an alleged domestic accident. According to the Specialized Criminal Investigations Police Station (Deic), the police identified discrepancies in the stepfather's testimony, who was with the child at the time of the alleged accident and became the main suspect. The medical report indicated that the boy died as a result of injuries and head trauma. The examination also identified signs of torture, according to the Civil Police. During the investigation, police seized the child's clothes with blood stains. The stepfather was arrested on May 31, 2025, more than three months after the boy's death. He was located in Pindamonhangaba during a police raid. There was a preventive arrest warrant issued against him by the Court for the murder of the child.
