The event brings together shows, bumba meu boi groups, creole drums, reggae, black dances, gastronomy and a fair with entrepreneurs from Maranhão in the crafts, fashion and design segments. With text and performance by Dudu Gehlen and artistic direction by Jefferson Santi, the play follows the relationship between a grandmother and her grandson and the way he faces loss after her death. The narrative begins at a wake and takes the audience through the memories of Dona Caçula, an artisan from Maranhão who lived in Cantanhede. The exhibition presents black children as heirs to ancient African dynasties and empires, such as Kush, Mali, Axum and Songhay. The project combines historical research, photography workshops and essays produced with children and young people from peri-urban communities. The photographs are by Ribamar Carvalho, with art direction and curation by Patrícia Fonseca.
