Police sweep and siege According to the Civil Police, the seizure is the result of an ongoing investigation. Agents were already monitoring the possibility of a large shipment of narcotics that would cross the region hidden in loads of grain. The search and sweep operation in the region lasted three days, starting on Wednesday (8) with several approaches on branches and local roads. On Saturday, when setting up a police barrier on a dirt road to intercept the suspect vehicle, the police saw the truck. Upon noticing the vehicle, the driver braked the vehicle suddenly in the middle of the road, left the cabin and ran towards the dense vegetation that borders the road, according to the police. Drugs hidden in corn The police officers carried out a security approach and began a thorough search of the semi-trailer with a closed body. In the compartment, agents found hundreds of bags of corn. However, the strong odor of chemicals caught the team's attention. When removing part of the bags of corn from the front of the truck's trunk, the police found a huge quantity of rectangular tablets with a white petrified substance, with characteristics of cocaine. The truck and all cargo were seized and escorted to the Denarc headquarters, in Belém. In the capital of Pará, unloading and unofficial weighing were carried out, which confirmed the total of 1.36 tons of the drug. The seized material was sent for technical expertise to the Scientific Police of Pará. The Civil Police reported that investigations continue with the aim of identifying the driver who fled, the owner of the vehicle and the other members of the drug trafficking scheme responsible for transporting the cargo.
