Avante launches David Almeida as a candidate for the government of Amazonas

"We are going to liberate this state through education. We are going to develop the interior with our potential, economic and ecological zoning. And the same people who led the state to this situation are asking for votes", he said. The parliamentarian has a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Lutheran University of Manaus (Ulbra). He began his political career in 2006, when he was elected state deputy in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas. The first term was contested by the Amazonas Melhor Coalition (PTN, PSC, PAN and PTC), elected with 7,569 votes. The second took place in 2010, by the Coligação Avança Amazonas (PRB, PP, PMDB, PSC, PRTB, PHS, PMM), elected with 24,479 votes. The third term was won in the 2014 elections, by the Coalition (PROS, PSD, PSDB, PSC), with 24,189 votes. David Almeida was elected President of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas for the 2017/2018 biennium, in the election that took place on December 20, 2016, with 17 votes. In 2017, he was sworn in as acting governor of Amazonas after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) upheld the revocation of the mandates of governor José Melo (PROS) and vice Henrique Oliveira (SD), for buying votes in the 2014 elections. In 2020, Almeida was elected mayor of Manaus after defeating Amazonino Mendes (Podemos) in the 2nd round with 466,970 votes in the total (51.27%). He won re-election in 2024, after defeating Captain Alberto Neto (PL). He achieved 54.59% of the votes, totaling 576,171 votes. David Almeida is the target of seven criminal investigations authorized by the Amazonas Court of Justice (TJAM). The investigations involve suspicions of corruption, bid fraud and favoritism of family members and businesspeople with public contracts. Among the cases investigated are trips to the Caribbean and monthly payments of R$20,000 to the mayor's mother-in-law, Lidiane Oliveira Fontenelle, by a company hired by City Hall. In July of this year, the Federal Police asked the Electoral Court to hear David Almeida, as part of the investigations in an inquiry that investigates the possible purchase of votes in the 2024 municipal elections. According to the document contained in the process, in theory, an organized structure, with the supposed participation of the son-in-law, would have mobilized religious leaders focused on electoral support and Almeida's re-election.
