"In the absence of an internal legal basis to support its protectionist trade policy, the USTR chose to manipulate an issue dear to human rights and the struggle of workers around the world to accuse 59 countries and the European Union of unfair practices", says the official note.
"Throughout the investigation, the Ministry of Labor and Employment provided explanations and provided extensive documentation on Brazilian legislation and the actions of our customs authorities to prevent imports of goods produced by forced labor", says another excerpt.
Still in the note, the management says that Brazil has been recognized for decades by the International Labor Organization (ILO) for the strong commitments made to combat forced labor.
