Delegate Thaís Dequech, head of the 1st Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam), explains that the investigation began after the victim registered the incident at the Online Police Station. According to the police, the suspect has no relevant criminal record, just a record of threat, from 2021, which would not be related to violence against women. In the video, the young woman says that she felt intimidated by the man who, according to her, persistently tried to get closer. Afraid, she went into a store, called her mother and asked her to come and pick her up. "She acted correctly, looking for an establishment where there would be other witnesses to ensure her safety. And the next step is to call 190 to be able to approach this perpetrator while he is still in the act and identify him", advises the delegate. On social media, she showed photos of the suspect, who allegedly approached another woman in a square moments after approaching her. In the comments of the publication, other women reported similar episodes. "We need to identify who these victims are and whether they have already registered a police report. If they are victims of the same suspect, if there is a repeat crime, the fact will certainly be treated differently and even the analysis of some more drastic measure", says the head of Deam. If there is proof of a sequence of crimes committed by the same man, this could influence the next steps of the investigation and the adoption of more rigorous measures by the police.
