PF arrests suspect of sexual crimes against sedated women in Castanhal, Pará A man was arrested by the Federal Police (PF) this Tuesday (28), in Castanhal, metropolitan region of Belém, during an operation investigating a group suspected of committing sexual crimes against sedated women. The action is part of the third phase of Operation Somnus. According to the PF, another person under investigation was arrested in Rio Grande do Sul. They participated in groups on the internet aimed at sharing photos and videos with scenes of sexual violence against unconscious women. The suspects also exchanged information about substances with sedative properties and ways to use them to, in theory, commit crimes and record abuse. According to the investigation, one of the suspects had committed the crimes against his own wife. The other person investigated is suspected of sexually abusing family members. In Pará, a temporary arrest warrant was served. In Rio Grande do Sul, the court issued a preventive arrest warrant. Operation Somnus began in 2025, following information shared by the German Criminal Police (BKA), as part of international cooperation coordinated by Europol. Investigations point to the activities of a transnational network focused on sharing records of sexual abuse against sedated women. Those under investigation may be held liable for rape of a vulnerable person, disclosure of a rape scene or rape of a vulnerable person, unauthorized recording of sexual intimacy and other crimes that may be identified during the investigation.
