The rule was published in the Official Gazette and is now in force. According to Law No. 3,460, the Bible may only be used for cultural, historical, geographic, literary and archaeological purposes. Reading will be optional and will depend on the pedagogical planning of each school. The text guarantees that no student will be forced to participate in the activity and reinforces the right to religious freedom provided for in the Federal Constitution. Furthermore, the standard determines that the application of the measure respects freedom of conscience and belief, as well as the religious, cultural and philosophical diversity of students and their families. If the school adopts Bible reading, the activity will not be part of the mandatory curriculum and cannot be used to evaluate students or replace the content provided for by educational guidelines.
