In an interview with TV Cabo Branco, the lawyer stated that the client researched advertisements on the website and that Rodrigo's choice would have been random. Family members told TV Cabo Branco that Washington Rodrigo worked as a self-employed driver and had informed his mother that he was going on a run to Pipa, in Rio Grande do Norte, before disappearing. According to the Civil Police, the teenager claimed that he felt intimidated during the meeting as he suspected that the victim had recorded part of the intimate moment between the two. According to delegate Diego Garcia, the teenager stated that he used an airsoft gun to force Washington Rodrigo to provide his cell phone password. "He claimed that he felt intimidated and threatened by the victim who supposedly had photographed some part of their intimate moment, while he made him handcuff himself, simulating a fetish, and, using an airsoft, forced him to hand over his cell phone so that he could check if there were messages or photographs to the detriment of his person, since he considers himself a theologian and therefore could not have his image corrupted," said the delegate. The defense stated that the teenager confessed to the murder and said he had acted out of fear of having his sexual orientation exposed. The Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) confirmed that Washington Rodrigo died of asphyxiation. According to the director of the IML, doctor Flávio Fabres, the victim also showed signs of torture. After the crime, the teenager tried to leave the hotel with the victim's car, but was unable to do so.
