The dollar in cash opened slightly higher this Tuesday, 28th, quoted at R$ 5.1182, an increase of 0.12%, and reached the level of R$ 5.12 shortly afterwards. The movement occurred even after the release of the July IPCA-15 below market expectations.

The American currency accompanied the slight strengthening of the dollar abroad, while oil continued to fall and most emerging country currencies also lost value against the United States currency.

The Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15) increased 0.06% in July, after rising 0.41% in June, reported the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The result was below the minimum estimates from the Broadcast Projections survey, which ranged from 0.17% to 0.28%, with a median of 0.21%. The data reinforces the perception of a slowdown in inflation and tends to increase bets on a reduction in the Selic at next week's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) meeting.

Before the indicator was released, the Central Bank reported that the current account deficit totaled US$2.3 billion in June, in line with market expectations. Direct Investment in the Country (IDP) reached US$9.1 billion, above projections.

The DXY index, which measures the dollar's performance against a basket of six strong currencies, advanced slightly this morning. The yields on US Treasury bonds, Treasuries, fell for the third consecutive session.

Oil extended the losses that began at the end of last week. A barrel of Brent fell around 2% and remained below US$85, amid the developments in the conflict in the Middle East.

Among the indicators released this morning, Fundação Getulio Vargas reported that the Construction Confidence Index increased 0.8 points in July, to 92.5 points. The National Construction Cost Index (INCC-M) slowed down to an increase of 0.62%, after increasing 0.85% in June.

On Monday, the 27th, the dollar in cash closed the session up 0.62%, quoted at R$5.1122. Despite the appreciation in the session, the currency still accumulated a drop of 0.98% in July and 6.86% in 2026.
