The 6th João Pessoa International Marathon, considered the biggest street running event in the Northeast, is coming. On the 1st and 2nd of August, the capital of Paraíba will welcome athletes from all Brazilian states for two days of competition, overcoming and sports tourism. Promoted by João Pessoa City Hall, through the Secretariat of Youth, Sport and Recreation (Sejer), the event will distribute more than R$ 128 thousand in prizes and will feature 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, 42 km and the traditional Arretado Challenges, in addition to an expanded medical structure, specialized support and the Gold Seal of the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt). The race brings together athletes from different Brazilian states in the arena of the João Pessoa International Marathon Disclosure/Sejer Registration is still open and can be done via the race's official website: www.maratonainternacionaldejoaopessoa.com. The program will be held over two days. On Saturday (1st) the 10 km and 21 km races will take place, with starts starting at 4pm. On Sunday (2) it will be time for the 42 km marathon, starting at 4:30 am, and the 5 km race, at 6 am. The 2026 edition arrives even stronger. In addition to maintaining the CBAt Gold Seal and recognition from World Athletics, the João Pessoa International Marathon became part of Brasil Gigante, a circuit that brings together only eight of the main marathons in the country and consolidates the race among the biggest street running events on the national scene. "With each edition, the João Pessoa International Marathon grows in structure, quality and recognition. Today we are part of a select group of national races and this strengthens not only the sport, but also tourism and the economy of our city. We hope to welcome runners from all Brazilian states to live this great experience in João Pessoa", highlighted the executive secretary of Sejer and general director of the race, Juliano Sucupira. Expectation of 8 thousand runners in the two days of the event Disclosure/Sejer Awards The competition will distribute more than R$128 thousand in prizes, including athletes from the Elite, General, Age Group, People with Disabilities (PWD) categories, teams, sports consultants and athletes from João Pessoa, according to the official regulations. The marathon champions (male and female) will receive R$10,000 each, in addition to trophies. The top five finishers in each distance will also receive cash and trophies, as will the best five in each age group. The prices for individual races are: Marathon (42 km): R$205.50; Half Marathon (21 km): R$158.50; 10 km and 5 km races: R$126.50. Athletes aged 60 or over are entitled to the benefit provided by law. Municipal public servants of João Pessoa and PCD athletes also have special conditions, according to regulations. Combined challenges Combined challenges allow the athlete to compete in both days of the event: 63 km Challenge (21 km + 42 km): R$ 309.90; 52 km Challenge (10 km + 42 km): R$ 289.90; 26 km Challenge (21 km + 5 km): R$ 269.90; 15 km Challenge (10 km + 5 km): R$ 269.90. Expanded medical care structure for the 6th edition Disclosure/Sejer Medical structure and security João Pessoa City Hall has prepared a reinforced medical care structure for the 2026 edition. Specialized teams will be distributed in the arena and along the entire route to guarantee the safety of participants. For the sixth consecutive year, the João Pessoa International Marathon will have the support of the Medicina Extrema team, a national reference in medical care at sporting events and remote environments, offering assistance from the start until the arrival of the last runner. Registration remains open Disclosure/Sejer International standard The routes of the João Pessoa International Marathon are approved by the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt) and recognized by World Athletics, allowing the times obtained by athletes to be used for technical indexes in important international competitions. With an international standard structure, hydration stations, specialized medical care, official arbitration and high-level logistics, the race reaffirms its position among the main marathons in Brazil and strengthens João Pessoa as one of the largest sports tourism destinations in the country.
