The animal is also related to the conservation of rivers, lakes and mangroves, functioning as an indicator of environmental quality, according to Azab. 'Jaque' Jaque arrived at the Orquidário de Santos in 2008, two years old and one meter long, coming from a breeding facility located in Arujá (SP). She is currently around 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 39 pounds.

One factor that causes curiosity is its peaceful coexistence with other animals, such as small birds and other reptiles. According to the head of Environmental Education at the Orquidário, Alessandra Oliveira, there has even been an attempt to coexist with a male of the species, but without success. According to the City of Santos, the space where Jaque lives was prepared to allow her to maintain natural behaviors of the species, such as staying in the water, sunbathing to regulate her body temperature and resting in dry areas.
