Student dies at state school in Petrolina Family, friends and schoolmates said goodbye, this Wednesday (29), to student Otávio Soares Macedo, 18 years old. The young man died on Tuesday morning (28) inside the Padre Manoel de Paiva Netto High School Reference School (Erem), located in the Jardim Amazonas neighborhood, in Petrolina, in the Sertão of Pernambuco. During the wake, held at the Velório Central, in the Gercino Coelho neighborhood, family members stated that Otávio had died after being shocked in one of the school's drinking fountains. So far, the cause of death has not yet been released by authorities. Michele reports having seen a video from the school in which, supposedly, Otávio appears to be shocked in the water fountain. "Everything indicates that it was a shock. I saw the footage at school, the school showed it to me, the management showed me this footage of him leaning on the water fountain, so it could possibly have been a shock", he states. Otávio's great-aunt, Marinalva Alves Soares told g1 that the student's father found out about the case through a phone call from the school management. "When he answered, she said: 'Otávio had a shock'. Then he said: 'But was it serious'? Then she said: 'No'. She said that my nephew was fine. He had been shocked. When Vander got there, Otávio was already in a state of shock, being resuscitated", reports the aunt. Shaken by his son's death, Otávio's father preferred not to record an interview. According to the Pernambuco Education Department (SEE), the teaching unit's management performed first aid and immediately activated the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). The young man received care from the medical team, but did not survive. According to Samu, when the team arrived at the school, "the patient was already in cardiorespiratory arrest. The team resuscitated for 45 minutes and the patient did not return." The Civil Police informed, through a note, that they registered the occurrence of the young man's death. An investigation was opened by the Petrolina 213th District Police Station, and the case remains under investigation.
