Festa de São Tiago completes 249 years of tradition in 2026 The traditional Festa de São Tiago completes 249 years and continues until July 28th, in the historic village of Mazagão Velho, in the municipality of Mazagão. The festival brings together performances, religious rituals and cultural events in honor of the municipality's patron saint. The program began on Tuesday (15), with cultural activities at the Main Church of Mazagão Novo and the 1st Meeting of Traditional Festivities, in Mazagão Velho. Village residents play historical characters and recreate episodes from the tradition. The main scenario shows Saint James as an anonymous soldier in the battle between Christians and Moors. Recognized as the state's intangible cultural heritage, it preserves traditions that reflect the Afro-Portuguese-indigenous formation of the region. The Traffic Battalion and Operation Lei Seca intensify inspections on AP-010, the main access to the village. The objective is to prevent crimes, reduce accidents and ensure the safe flow of vehicles and buses.
