Scammers pretend to be relatives on WhatsApp and claim victims in Pádua An elderly man was the victim of a scam carried out through WhatsApp and lost R$4,980 after believing that he was talking to his own son in Santo Antônio de Pádua, in the Northwest of Fluminense. According to the incident report carried out at the 136th Police Station, the victim received a message from an unknown number. The author of the conversation pretended to be the elderly man's son and asked him to pay a bill. Believing he was helping a family member, the man made the payment. Soon after, he contacted his real son and discovered that he had not sent any message or requested any transfer. ? The payment, however, was not completed because there was a problem reading the barcode, which led the elderly person to become suspicious of the situation and avoid further loss. After realizing that he had been a victim of fraud, the man went to a Caixa Econômica Federal branch, where he was advised to register the incident with the Civil Police. The case will be investigated. The victim informed the police that he hopes to be able to recover the lost money. Santo Antônio de Pádua Police Station is investigating the case.
