Click here to follow the g1 PB channel on WhatsApp According to the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2iD), of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), the decrees were mainly motivated by drought, intense rains and flooding, depending on the characteristics of each region. In the Sertão, for example, the main cause is drought. In total, 108 municipalities in Paraíba are in an emergency situation due to the lack of rain. On the Coast, 37 cities have emergency decrees due to intense rains, while one municipality faces the same situation due to flooding.

Of the 146 municipalities with emergency decrees, 140 have already received federal recognition, a necessary step so that city halls can request resources from the Union for actions to assist the population and recover affected areas. Some of the cities in an emergency situation were hit by heavy rains in May, such as João Pessoa and Santa Rita, which were among the municipalities most affected by rainfall in the state. How municipalities can request resources An emergency situation is an official recognition that the municipality is facing a disaster that compromises part of its response capacity. With this, city halls can ask the federal government for financial support for civil defense actions. In practice, the decree allows the request of resources for measures such as: purchase of basic food baskets purchase of mineral water provision of meals for workers and volunteers home cleaning kits personal hygiene and dormitory items Requests must be made to the National Civil Defense through the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2iD). The platform is used to record damage caused by drought and present work plans. After sending the information, the Civil Defense technical team analyzes the goals and values ??requested. If approved, a new ordinance is published in the Official Gazette of the Union with the amount that will be released to the municipality. Most watched videos from g1 Paraíba
