Dog dies after being run over by a GCM Ambiental vehicle A Lhasa Apso dog died after being run over by a Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) Environmental vehicle in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo. Surveillance cameras captured the accident (watch above). The owners of the animal, called Billy, claim that there was recklessness and failure to provide assistance on the part of the agents, while the City of Praia Grande guarantees that it was an accident and the guards did not notice the collision (see full statement below). ? In the surveillance images, it is possible to see that the GCM vehicle stopped on the corner to greet children who were on the street. At one point, the animal overtook the car and ended up being run over. Despite this, the driver did not stop and continued on the route. To g1, the animal's owner, Kátia Patrício, 34 years old, said that the dog was only outside when accompanied. He was with the children, who are the woman's nephews. “Minutes before, I was on the sidewalk,” he said. According to Kátia, she was in the garage when she heard the sound of being run over and ran into the street, where she found the dog already dead. For the owner, the driver of the vehicle was reckless in continuing to drive while the dog ran after the vehicle. "At no point did they stop to at least take away my dog, or for my nephews to pick up Billy. They just sped up the whole time," he recalled. According to Kátia, the animal was not used to running after cars. Therefore, she believes that Billy just wanted to play because the guards had greeted the children and one of them remained with his hand outside the vehicle. Family According to his owner, Billy arrived to the family in 2018, when he was still a puppy. It was a Christmas gift from Kátia to her son, who was 8 years old at the time. Therefore, the animal grew up with the boy. "My son was very shaken. He cries a lot", lamented the woman, saying that the teenager, aged 16, was very attached, as was his youngest daughter, just 3 years old. Kátia said that, despite knowing that nothing will bring the animal back, she hopes that the case will serve as a warning for traffic. According to her, drivers should be aware of animals, including those living on the streets. "Not just the Environmental Guard, anyone who drives by and sees a puppy barking has to stop. They [dogs] don't have the mind of an adult," he concluded. What does the city hall say? In a statement, the City of Praia Grande lamented the case, stating that the animal "ran after the vehicle and went towards the wheel of the vehicle without the team noticing”. "The sector reinforces that due to the size of the vehicle, the situation was not observed by the team at the time it happened", said the municipal administration, highlighting that it was an accident without any intention on the part of the team.
