G1 in 1 Minute RO: Woman discovers that she underwent a tubal ligation without authorization The Regional Council of Medicine of Rondônia (Cremero) opened an ethical-professional process to investigate the conduct of three doctors following the complaint of a woman who claims to have undergone a tubal ligation without authorization during a birth at the Municipal Maternity of Ji-Paraná (RO). The case happened in 2021. ? According to the couple, the tubal ligation was performed during a cesarean section without their consent. They also claim that the responsible doctor said he would carry out the procedure even without authorization. One of the professionals mentioned, doctor Eliedson Vicente de Almeida, was convicted by the courts in 2025. After analyzing the complaint, the documents presented and the explanations of those involved, counselor Andrea Barbieri de Barros concluded that there is sufficient evidence to investigate the conduct of three doctors: Eliedson Vicente de Almeida; Jozelida Bitencour Miranda da Silva; Geraldo Carvalho de Alencar. ?? The opening of the process does not mean that the doctors were found guilty. At this stage, Cremero only understood that there are sufficient elements to deepen the investigation and verify whether there was a violation of the Code of Medical Ethics. In a document sent to the council, doctor Jozelida Bitencour Miranda da Silva informed that she participated in the surgery as an assistant. According to her, the patient was 42 years old and had severe pre-eclampsia, which led the responsible obstetrician to opt for tubal ligation during the cesarean section. Doctor Eliedson Vicente de Almeida stated that the patient arrived at the hospital with very high blood pressure and that the case required an urgent cesarean section. Regarding tubal ligation, he claimed that the decision was made during surgery due to the patient's health status, her age and the risks of a future pregnancy. According to the doctor, the patient verbally agreed to the procedure, but did not sign the authorization due to the urgency of the case. In the case of Geraldo Carvalho de Alencar, the Cremero report pointed out a possible failure in filling out the medical record, due to a lack of information about the patient's complaints, the physical examination carried out and the conduct adopted. g1 tries to contact the defense of the doctors mentioned in this report. What the couple says The opening of the process by Cremero was received by the couple as another step in the search for accountability for those involved. To g1, the child's father, Fabio Rodrigues dos Santos, said he expected the professionals to be punished if the irregularities were confirmed. "We have now discovered that in addition to him there are three other doctors. This was news for us. What we hope is that the case will be analyzed with all rigor, because the impact of this on our family was very great", he said. Fabio also stated that the family awaits the outcome of the legal actions related to the case. "We hope that the courts recognize the seriousness of what happened. It was very serious damage to our family and especially to my wife, because we planned to have another child," he declared. Silvanei Alves Pereira said that she still lives with the emotional consequences of the episode that occurred in 2021. According to her, the expectation is that the ethical investigation will clarify the facts and result in a decision that takes into account the impacts caused by the procedure. "We are very sad about all this. It is a situation that marked our lives. We wanted to have another child and to this day we carry this suffering", he stated. The case According to the couple, Silvanei went into labor and was taken to the Ji-Paraná Municipal Maternity Hospital in severe pain. The husband, Fabio Rodrigues, stated that he was prevented from attending the service. The patient reports that she was informed that she would have a natural birth, but ended up having a cesarean section. Still according to the husband, at one point the doctor left the room and shouted in the hallway: "I'm going to sterilize your wife." In the process, Eliedson Vicente de Almeida stated that the patient arrived at the hospital with severe pre-eclampsia and in labor. According to him, in situations like this, the recommended course of action is to perform an emergency cesarean section. The doctor also claimed that the patient was informed about the risks of a new pregnancy. One of the doctors has already been convicted. In 2025, the Rondônia Court sentenced the doctor Eliedson Vicente de Almeida to two years in prison, in addition to paying a 10-day fine, in the amount equivalent to R$404. The sentence was initially set in an open regime. The prison sentence was replaced by restrictions on rights. As a result, the doctor is prohibited from visiting bars, brothels and similar establishments and must provide services to the community. He was convicted based on article 15 of Law No. 9,263/96, which provides for a sentence of two to eight years in prison for anyone who performs sterilization without the patient's authorization during a surgical procedure. The decision can still be appealed. g1 contacted Eliedson Vicente de Almeida's defense, who informed that he will not comment on the conviction.
