Management admits flaws in hospital food in Petrópolis The food offered at Hospital Alcides Carneiro (HAC), in Petrópolis, in the Serrana region of Rio, was the subject of a hearing held this Thursday (10) at the 4th Civil Court. During the session, representatives from the unit confirmed that the egg was the only protein served to patients and professionals for five days due to a debt owed by the City Hall to the company responsible for supplying proteins. The hearing was held after a complaint was sent to the Court, which indicated that eggs were the only protein offered at the hospital. ? "The issue of the menu serving only eggs as the main protein on some days, I point out that it was only the last 5 days that brought that date forward. Because really, they had no other protein option in stock. Like beef, chicken and fish", said nutritionist Vanessa during the hearing. According to the nutritionist, information that was confirmed by the director of the Autonomous Service of Hospital Alcides Carneiro, Luiz Cruzick, and by the Municipal Secretary of Health, Clarissa Rippel, the company responsible for supplying the proteins interrupted deliveries because the City Hall was in debt to the supplier. The director of Sehac informed that the transfer was made on Friday (3) last week, but that the supplies only arrived at the hospital on Monday (6). "Regarding the supply of eggs to the hospital and units, I corroborate Vanessa's statement, they were served for 5 days. And on Friday we made the transfers to the company, so that it could logistically deliver the missing proteins", said the president of SEHAC during the hearing. At the hearing, SEHAC's financial management stated that there is currently a debt of R$437 million, of which R$58 million is just with suppliers. The complaint about spoiled food found in the unit was also discussed by councilor Léo França (PT), who referred the case to the Court. The hospital management stated that a technical team inspects the more than 50 kilos of fruit and vegetables stored in the unit daily. According to the administration, the products found had not yet undergone this inspection and, therefore, would not be offered to patients. "On the day of the inspection, when passing through the salad area, where the tomato boxes were located, according to the record, a tomato was found to be showing signs of mold. However, before any preparation, the produce is selected so that it can be consumed", explained the unit's nutritionist. The judge of the 4th Civil Court, Jorge Luiz Martins, classified the situation as "very serious" and stated that the case violates the citizen's subjective rights. At the hearing, the Public Prosecutor's Office recommended that the hospital record daily, through photographs, the food offered to patients and employees.
