The decision is an outcome of the Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM) operation that investigates the performance of surgical procedures by professionals without medical training. With the measure, the two are prohibited from acting professionally and from carrying out any type of advertising or publicity for services while the investigations continue. The case involves two units of the EstetiClin network, located in the Adrianópolis neighborhood, in the Central-South Zone, and in the East Zone of the capital. ? Police launch operation against beauty clinics that performed irregular surgeries "One victim, a lady who underwent nymphoplasty at this clinic and had complications. She was treated by a gynecologist at the Women's Hospital and underwent treatment with great risks. She went to the police station, we started investigating and it was actually proven that this beauty clinic performs some procedures, including nymphoplasty and rhinoplasty, which are procedures that have to be carried out by a doctor", he explained. Arcanjo stated that the suspension of the professional activities of those being investigated takes effect immediately. "Their right to practice their profession at the clinic has been suspended. The biomedical and dental surgeons will not be able to work or carry out any type of advertising for the time being", he added. Still according to Arcanjo, the equipment used was a CO? laser capable of making incisions in the tissues, which would characterize a surgical procedure. According to the investigation, the procedures were carried out only by professionals, without medical support staff and in a room considered unsuitable for this type of care. During the operation carried out on Wednesday (22), police officers executed warrants in the clinic's two units and seized aesthetic equipment, electronic devices, documents and medicines, which will be analyzed throughout the investigation. The two investigated were taken to the 4th DIP to give statements and were then released. Council of Medicine warns of risks In light of the suspicions investigated by the Civil Police, the Regional Council of Medicine of Amazonas (CRM-AM) warned of the risks of surgical procedures carried out by people without medical training. The body's advisor, Shirllane Rodrigues, stated that the lack of adequate training can make it difficult to identify and treat complications. "The risks are extremely serious. When a person without medical training performs procedures, they do not have the ability to identify complications or conditions to overcome them, much less in the case of emergency support. So we are talking about infections, serious cases of permanent deformity up to the risk of death. Surgery, even if aesthetic, is a medical act and must be carried out by a qualified professional", he pointed out. What the clinic says In a statement, EstetiClin Muniz informed that it had temporarily suspended its activities due to an inspection procedure. The company stated that it is collaborating with the authorities and providing the requested clarifications so that the necessary measures can be completed. The clinic also reported that it is temporarily without access to telephones and service channels, but guaranteed that no patient will be harmed and that the procedures, packages and amounts paid will be preserved. According to the company, as soon as communication channels are reestablished, patients will be advised on rescheduling and other procedures.
