Araruama Lagoon enters closed period Luiz Felipe Rodrigues/Araruama City Hall The closed period for Araruama Lagoon, in the Lakes Region of Rio, begins this Saturday (August 1st). Seeking to protect the aquatic animals that reproduce during this period, the city's city hall will reinforce the monitoring of the fishing ban, which will last until October 31st. During the three months of closure, teams from the Environmental Maritime Guard and Environmental Inspection will patrol on land and water in different parts of the lagoon. The measure seeks to contribute to the preservation of the species. Actions include inspection of vessels and fishing equipment, guidance to fishermen on legislation and, when necessary, seizure of irregular materials and application of infraction notices. ? According to the municipal Secretary of the Environment, Carlos Siqueira Filho, the objective is to curb irregular fishing and raise awareness among fishermen about the importance of the species protection period. The inspection will be carried out in conjunction with other environmental agencies to expand monitoring of the lagoon. The Municipal Environment Secretariat advises that reports of irregular fishing or other environmental infractions can be made by calling (22) 3666-0012 and (22) 3666-0013.
