For many years, telling the story of Rio Claro meant talking about coffee, the railroad, large industries, traditional stores and the entrepreneurial spirit of a city that learned to grow through work. Few people realize, however, that there is an institution present in practically all of these moments. She stood alongside traders when the economy still depended on mule troops to transport goods. He participated in the reorganization of the business sector after the 1932 Revolution. He intermediated the supply of fuel and food during the Second World War. He followed the industrialization of the city, the arrival of multinationals, the computerization of commerce, the birth of the internet and, now, he participates in discussions about artificial intelligence, innovation and smart cities. This institution is the Commercial and Industrial Association of Rio Claro — ACIRC. On July 30, 2026, the entity turns 104 years old, maintaining a rare role among Brazilian organizations: adapting to changes without losing its essence. Before ACIRC, there was already a city that was learning to undertake Long before the association was founded, Rio Claro already demonstrated a commercial vocation. In the 19th century, driven by the expansion of coffee farming, the city began to receive immigrants, expand its trade and consolidate increasingly sophisticated economic relations. Historical documents show that local traders were already demanding improvements in infrastructure to speed up the transport of goods between Rio Claro, Santos and the then capital of the Empire. The arrival of the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro, in 1876, completely transformed this scenario. Transport time was drastically reduced, new companies were installed, the consumer market grew and Rio Claro went from being just an agricultural city to becoming an important commercial and industrial center in the interior of São Paulo. Growth, however, brought new challenges. Businesspeople needed to defend common interests, organize the productive sector and dialogue with public authorities. It was in this environment that Rio Clara business associations were born. Acirc Headquarters, a reference in supporting commerce, industry and services in Rio Claro – Credit: Disclosure / ACIRC.

When businesspeople understood that competing did not prevent walking together The history of ACIRC begins even before 1922. Research carried out for the book Acirc, 90 years of history reveals that as early as 1888 the city's traders mobilized collectively to demand equal market conditions, protesting against privileges granted to certain economic sectors. This mobilization matured in the following decades. On July 30, 1922, the Rio Claro Commercial Association was officially founded. A few years later, in 1931, one of the most important moments in its history occurred: the merger between the Commercial Association and the Centro Comercial Reunidos, forming a stronger, more organized and representative entity. The new statute institutionally consolidated the organization and expanded its operating capacity. More than bringing together businesspeople, ACIRC came to represent an idea. The idea that strong cities depend on strong companies. Acirc Headquarters, a reference in supporting commerce, industry and services in Rio Claro – Credit: Disclosure / ACIRC.

An institution that has gone through the most difficult times The history of ACIRC is not only built on periods of prosperity. During the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 and, later, in the Second World War, the entity played a strategic role for Rio Claro. The association intermediated the distribution of food, fuel and other essential inputs, acting as a link between businesspeople, the population and public authorities in times of scarcity and instability. This action strengthened its credibility and consolidated its position as an institution of collective interest, and not just corporate interest. Over the following decades, the city changed. Coffee lost its prominence. Railway workshops gave way to a diversified industrial economy. Large companies arrived in the municipality. New neighborhoods emerged. Commerce expanded. And ACIRC continued to be present. Acirc Headquarters, a reference in supporting commerce, industry and services in Rio Claro – Credit: Disclosure / ACIRC.

Growing together with Rio Claro Industrialization profoundly changed the economic dynamics of the municipality. Traditional companies shared space with new national and international investments. Rio Claro has become a reference in logistics, ceramics, metallurgy, food, beverages, technology and service provision. ACIRC followed each of these transformations. Modernized its services. Updated its structure. It expanded its institutional operations. It began offering solutions focused on credit, digital certification, business training, market analysis, corporate spaces, consultancy and support for business development. More than following changes, the entity began to anticipate them. Acirc Headquarters, a reference in supporting commerce, industry and services in Rio Claro – Credit: Disclosure / ACIRC.

The association that reinvented itself to remain relevant Few centuries-old organizations manage to remain current. ACIRC is one of these cases. Today, in addition to the institutional representation of entrepreneurs, it offers a complete ecosystem of services. These include credit analysis, Digital Certificate, consultancy, courses, training, training rooms, auditoriums, event spaces, business incubator, business plans, strategic partnerships and programs aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship.
