Video shows player being detained with drugs before being found dead

The images, released by broadcaster CBS, show the police officers carrying out the approach and finding different substances inside the player's vehicle. Among the items seized was a package of kratom, a substance of natural origin that has been the subject of concern among US authorities due to the increase in cases of poisoning and deaths recorded in the last decade.

Known by some as "gas station heroin," kratom is a leaf-derived supplement that is often marketed as a stimulant or pain reliever. According to police information, the substance can become extremely dangerous when consumed together with other compounds, increasing health risks.

At the time of the stop, Brandon Clarke was arrested for driving at a speed above the permitted speed and for carrying the substances found during the search of the car. The video of the incident gained repercussion after the athlete's death, which occurred a few weeks later.

Despite the suspicions raised by initial examinations, authorities are still awaiting the conclusion of the investigation to officially determine the cause of the player's death.
