The forecast comes while cities like Eldorado do Sul are still counting the damage caused by last weekend's storm. In the municipality of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, the Civil Defense registered 720 homeless people, and the city hall declared an emergency.
Schools in the Eldorado Park District and settlements had classes suspended this Monday, 13th. According to the municipal administration, the measure seeks to guarantee the safety of the school community and allow teams to remain mobilized to assist affected families.
The concern, however, is not limited to the damage already recorded. The forecast indicates that the State should face severe weather conditions again in the coming days.
According to Climatempo, the first areas of instability should form between late afternoon and Thursday night in the west, in Campanha and in the Central Region. The forecast is for storms with wind gusts between 60 km/h and 80 km/h, lightning, hail and the risk of falling trees, damage to the electrical network and interruptions in the power supply.
On Friday, the system should gain strength and advance towards the Central Region, the valleys of the Pardo, Taquari and Sinos rivers and the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, increasing the risk of intense rain and flooding, especially in urban areas.
Over the weekend, the cold front is expected to spread across the state. On Saturday, the alert focuses on the Missões, Central Region, Plateau, north and valleys of the Pardo and Taquari rivers, with forecasts of heavy rain, hail, lightning and the possibility of flooding and overflowing streams. On Sunday, the greatest risk passes to the Plateau, the north and the Serra, where wind gusts can exceed 80 km/h, accompanied by intense rain and isolated hail.
Instability is also expected to persist on Monday, mainly in Missões, Planalto, north and Serra. Climatempo experts explain that the scenario is caused by an atmospheric blockage over the Southeast of Brazil, which makes it difficult for the cold front to move and maintains the transport of heat and humidity over Rio Grande do Sul. The combination favors the formation of thunderstorms for several consecutive days.
