Two drivers die after serious accident in European championship

Pilots Philipp Steinmayr, 33, and Adrian Rus, 44, died after a serious accident during a stage of the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship, held at the Brno Race Track, in the Czech Republic.

The International Motorcycling Federation confirmed the deaths this Sunday. Steinmayr died at the scene of the accident. Rus was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Given the seriousness of what happened, the organization canceled all remaining programming for the weekend. As a result, the planned races of the European Supersport Cup 300, the European Supersport Cup 600, the European Superstock Cup 1000 and the European Women's Championship were not held.

The FIM World Endurance Championship also lamented the deaths in a social media post.

Philipp Steinmayr was born on August 13, 1993, in Austria. Adrian Rus was born on August 11, 1982, in Romania.

In a statement, those responsible for the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship offered solidarity to the families and friends of the riders. Out of respect for those involved, the organization said it would not release new details about the accident.
