According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, a specialist in the transfer market, the Spanish midfielder was convinced to move to Barça, and negotiations are already underway between the two clubs. Manchester City, however, is asking for more than the 45 million euros that Barcelona is willing to pay.

'No' to Real Madrid comes after two weeks of conversations and irrefutable proposal
Rodri's decision to reject Real Madrid had nothing to do with the Merengue club's professional stance during the negotiations. An “irrefutable” proposal had already been on the table since the day after the 2026 World Cup final.
"The proposal is really good. We value education, class, respect and the way Real Madrid conducted the negotiation. Real Madrid took Rodri's signing seriously and put everything on the table for him to play for the club", stated Pablo Barquero, the player's agent, in an interview with Cadena SER.
"From the president to the general director, everyone worked so that Rodri could play for Real Madrid. The conversations were positive and negotiations took place in the last two weeks, but Rodri made the decision to opt for another proposal", he added.

El Larguero, a Cadena SER program, also reported that Barcelona's proposal accepted by the captain of the Spanish team provides for a salary of approximately 15 million euros per season.
