According to SC Villa, the attack occurred on Monday night. Owori was taken to a health unit in serious condition, but he succumbed to his injuries. The club confirmed the death on Wednesday (5) and called for an urgent investigation.
How did the attack on David Owori happen? Information released by the local press indicates that the player was surprised by a group at around 8pm, as he approached home.
Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers hit Owori with paving stones, stole his belongings and fled, leaving him unconscious. The exact motivation and dynamics of the crime are still being investigated.
SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye said the athlete suffered serious injuries before being rushed for medical attention.

“SC Villa Football Club is devastated to confirm the death of its captain, David Owori, following a brutal attack by unknown individuals,” the team stated.
The team also asked security forces to act quickly to locate those responsible.
“This senseless act deprived the club and the country of a dedicated captain and a promising athlete, and it cannot go unpunished,” said SC Villa.
Who was David Owori?
Born in Tororo, David Owori played as a right-back and midfielder. Before establishing himself at SC Villa, he played for Vipers and had spells at Vélez CF, in Spain, and Utsiktens, in Sweden.
The player returned to SC Villa in 2023 and had renewed his contract until January 2027. He was also called up to represent the Uganda national team.
Owori participated in the campaign that led the club to the Ugandan Championship title in the 2023/24 season, ending the team's two-decade drought.
Death causes commotion in Ugandan football
Rival clubs, players and sports organizations published messages of condolence after the death was confirmed. SC Villa described Owori as a respected leader on and off the field and said they would support the family in organizing the funeral ceremonies.
The crime also reignited the debate about urban violence in Kampala and areas close to the capital. Authorities have not yet announced arrests in connection with the attack.
