According to a medical bulletin released this Friday (3), the worsening is also reflected in kidney function and causes Parreira to need hemodialysis.
"At the moment, despite being serious, he is stable and dependent on intensive support", informs the note.
Parreira was admitted to Hospital Samaritano Barra, in the southwest zone of Rio de Janeiro, due to lung inflammation.
Last week, on Saturday (27), the former coach underwent surgery to stop a nosebleed after a worsening condition that meant he needed the help of breathing machines. After the procedure, Parreira began breathing without equipment again.
In 2024, the coach underwent chemotherapy to treat Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Parreira was part of the technical committee of the three-time world champion team in 1970, working as a physical trainer under the command of Zagallo. The partnership between the two was resumed in the 2006 World Cup, when Parreira returned to being the team's coach, with Zagallo as an assistant. The Rio de Janeiro native also led the Canary Islands team to win four times at the 1994 World Cup.
In 2014, he was also part of the technical committee of the Brazilian team, led by Luiz Felipe Scolari, known as Felipão, during the World Cup held in Brazil.
Parreira also managed four other teams at World Cups. It was ahead of Kuwait in 1982, the United Arab Emirates in 1990, Saudi Arabia in 1998 and South Africa in 2010.
Last year, Parreira participated in Carlo Ancelotti's presentation at the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) in a video recorded in the United States. In the message, he welcomed the Italian.
