Lando Norris takes pole at the Hungarian GP; Bortoleto starts 14th

Norris led the entire qualifying and clocked 1:17.207 in Q3. It is the Briton's first pole position of the season. The last one was at the Las Vegas GP in 2025.

The McLaren driver also led free practice this Saturday. Hamilton was the best in training last Friday.

The Briton from Ferrari was very close to ending his pole streak. Hamilton started at the front for the last time as a Mercedes driver, at the 2023 Hungarian GP.

Gabriel Bortoleto suffered in qualifying and will start in 14th place. The Brazilian had difficulty in Q1, but was unable to repeat the feat in Q2.

HOW WAS THE CLASSIFICATION

Q1Lando Norris maintained his good momentum and led the first part of qualifying with a 1:18.277, beating Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton. Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, on the other hand, had a lap deleted for going beyond the track limits, he experienced a little drama, but returned to the track in the final minutes to guarantee his stay in qualifying by clocking 1:19.069. Those eliminated were Sergio Pérez, Valtteri Botta, Lance Stroll, Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman.

Q2Hadjar spun with just under 10 minutes remaining, causing a yellow flag that ended up hindering Bortoleto. The Brazilian returned to the track in the final minutes, but only clocked 1:19.105, was in 14th place and did not advance. In the fight for the lead, Lewis Hamilton (1:17.803) led part of Q2, but ended up being overtaken by Lando Norris (1:17.456) and Charles Leclerc (1:17.626). Those eliminated were: Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon, Gabriel Bortoleto, Franco Colapinto, Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson.

Q3Hamilton took the lead on the first lap with a 1:17.219, beating Lando Norris' 1:17.320. The Brit returned to the track with just over two minutes to go, but he didn't improve his time and needed to "dry" his opponents to secure pole. The yellow flag after Max Verstappen spun even helped hold Mercedes back, but McLaren's Lando Norris did 1:17.207 in the final seconds to secure first place.
