For the first time, Gavi talks about Paredes' aggression and surprises

The statement was made this Tuesday, in Los Palacios, when the player was questioned about the investigation opened by FIFA. Gavi acknowledged that the scenes did not convey a good message, especially for children, but stated that situations of greater tension are part of football.

"No, no. I tell you the truth: I don't think they should be suspended. I understand that it's not a good image for young people, for children, but I believe that football also has this more violent part. Perhaps the most logical thing, for me, would be to expel him during the game and end the matter there", he declared.

The player added that he does not intend to prolong the controversy and argued that the case should have been resolved on the field.

What happened?

FIFA is investigating the participation of Paredes, Nahuel Molina and Roberto Fabián Ayala, assistant coach of the Argentine national team, in the attacks that occurred after the final whistle. All three could receive a minimum punishment of three matches.

Article 14 of the entity's Disciplinary Code provides for a suspension of at least three games for anyone who attacks an opponent or any other person who is not a member of the arbitration. The rule includes punching, kicking, elbowing, biting, spitting and other forms of physical violence.

During the confusion, Paredes knocked Gavi down and later grabbed Eric García by the neck. Molina punched Rodri in the abdominal region as the Spanish captain ran to celebrate the title with his teammates.

Ayala was also caught trying to hit Dani Olmo in the head. The former player is currently part of the technical committee led by Lionel Scaloni.

FIFA regulations do not set a deadline for concluding the disciplinary process. According to the newspaper Mundo Deportivo, however, the inspector responsible for the investigation has already received all the documentation related to the episode.

The Disciplinary Committee is expected to announce a decision within 15 to 20 days.

Paredes spoke for the first time this Tuesday, after receiving the Argentine delegation in Buenos Aires. The midfielder did not comment directly on the attacks and focused the message published on Instagram on the defeat against Spain.

"Thank you, Argentina! I love you today and always. Today it is difficult to write, with a huge pain in my soul for not being able to give this joy that our country so deserved. But I'm also full of pride because we gave everything we had and returned to taking our flag to the highest level", he wrote.

At 32 years old, the player also left open the possibility of ending his career with the Argentine national team.

"Thank you to everyone who was part of this team, to this group of players who gave their lives to represent this shirt and did so until the last second of each game. It was a pride to be part of the best Argentine team in history", he stated.
