The Brazilian Canoeing Confederation (CBCa) stated, in a statement, that it will file a request for an appeal with the International Canoeing Federation. The event takes place in Oklahoma, in the United States.
Ana Sátila finished the race with a time that left her place in the decision. She even gave an interview celebrating the result obtained and projecting the fight for a place on the podium.
After the race, however, the vessel used by the athlete was re-evaluated at the weigh-in again and was disqualified. The Brazilian delegation contested the decision, arguing that, in the qualifiers, the weighing had been carried out and indicated that the boat was within the measurements.
The Brazilian delegation questioned the fact that the scale had calibration problems during the event, as messages were exchanged and requests for new vessel measurements were made. According to the confederation, this Wednesday (22) there were also obstacles in the calibration.
The appeal was not accepted, maintaining the athlete's disqualification and, consequently, her exclusion from the K1 Women's final. In a statement, CBCa stated that it will file a request for an appeal with the International Canoeing Federation in relation to the incident.
