It is fair and natural that a theater musical about Moraes Moreira arrives on the scene first in Bahia before traveling to other capitals in Brazil. This is what happens with “Moraes musical Moreira”, scheduled to be shown in Salvador (BA) this August. After all, Antonio Carlos Moreira Pires (July 8, 1947 – April 13, 2020) electrified the Bahia Carnival and was a kind of precursor to the universe of axé music when he wrote “Double morse” (1975), an instrumental theme by Trio Elétrico Dodô & Osmar, transformed into “Pombo Courier” with verses by Moraes. “Pombo Mail” took off in 1977 and paved the way for the solo career begun two years earlier by this singer, composer and musician from Bahia, born in Ituaçu (BA) and known nationally at the end of the 1960s as a member of the group Novos Baianos, from which he left in 1974. Following the success of “Pombo Mail”, Moraes Moreira broke the carnival borders of Bahia and Pernambuco by composing frevos that followed in the footsteps of the Pernambuco musical genre with the Bahian flavor of electric trios. All this feat will be told on stage in the show “Moraes musical Moreira”, whose national premiere is scheduled for August 13th in the Main Room of Teatro Castro Alves, in Salvador (BA). Following the Bahian season, the show will continue from September to cities such as Recife (PE), Brasília (DF) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Directed by actress and choreographer Ana Paula Bouzas, “Moraes musical Moreira” brings together 12 singing actors on stage to follow an orchestrated script with dramaturgy by Fábio Espírito Santo and musical direction by João Milet Meirelles and Ronei Jorge. In the words of the playwright: "The dramaturgy was designed to put on stage all of Moraes Moreira's musical diversity because, in addition to music, Moraes also produced books, was a chronicler, poet, cordelist... So this multiplicity guided the writing, the narrative structure and the selection of songs. The initial theme of the dramaturgy is a song from the album 'SerTão', from 2018, 'De cantor pra Cantador', a cordel where Moraes narrates his transition from one role to another. So I imagine that Moraes is now an experienced singer and, in the Ituaçu square, he sings a cordel about Vaqueiro do Som, a character who captures, weaves the melodies and who is inspired by himself, but within the dreamlike universe allowed by cordel literature.
