The new surcharges gained relevance in the political debate after announcements made by the American government in July. The United States announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on Brazilian products following a trade investigation and, days later, added a 12.5% ??surcharge, linked to allegations of labor abuses.
The relationship between the Bolsonaro family and the American president also came to the center of the discussion. The impeached deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), Flávio's brother, worked in the United States during the first phase of the trade crisis between the two countries, according to the survey.
The institute also asked voters who is correct in attributing responsibility for the crisis. For 34%, Lula is right in stating that Flávio Bolsonaro is responsible. 26% agree with the senator, who blames the Brazilian government.
Another 24% believe that neither is right, while 11% say that both are right. A further 6% were unable to answer.
Asked who is mainly responsible for the commercial punishment imposed by the United States, 35% pointed to Lula. Another 28% attributed responsibility to Trump.
The Bolsonaro brothers accounted for 23% of the responses, 13% for Flávio and 10% for Eduardo. 10% were unable to answer.
Regarding Brazil's reaction, 74% of those interviewed advocate that the country negotiate a solution to the trade crisis with the United States. Another 17% believe that the Brazilian government should retaliate against the Americans in the same proportion. Only 2% say that Brazil should accept the tariffs imposed by Washington.
The survey interviewed 2,004 people aged 16 or over on the 22nd and 23rd of July. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus.
