Cold front advances and puts region on alert for storms; see weather forecast for today

The action of a cold front over the South Region significantly increases instability this Tuesday (4), with a risk of storms mainly in Rio Grande do Sul, according to analysis by Climatempo. At the same time, a mass of dry air maintains the predominance of firm weather, above-average heat and low levels of humidity in much of the Southeast, Central-West and interior of the Northeast regions.

According to Climatempo, the cold front acts in conjunction with an area of low pressure in the ocean, the low-level jet (JBN) and a trough at medium levels of the atmosphere, favoring the formation of areas of intense rain in the south of the country. In the North Region, the heat combined with high humidity maintains isolated showers of rain.

South Region: Rio Grande do Sul has a risk of storms

Rio Grande do Sul has the most severe conditions of the day. From the early hours of the morning, moderate to heavy rain is forecast in the south, Campaign, west, southwest, south coast and central-west of the state.

Throughout the day, instability advances to other regions of Rio Grande do Sul, including the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Vales and Costa Doce. There is a risk of isolated storms, especially in the west, in Campanha and on the mid-coast.

In Santa Catarina, rain is expected to reach the south and west between the late afternoon and evening. In other areas of the region, the weather remains firm.

With the passage of the cold front, a new mass of polar air causes a drop in temperatures, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, where the minimum temperatures will be recorded during the night.

Southeast: sun, heat and low humidity

The weather remains stable in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and most of Espírito Santo.

The dry air mass prevents the formation of rain clouds and favors sunny days, with temperatures between 3 °C and 5 °C above average in several areas.

The lowest relative humidity levels, between 20% and 30%, should be recorded in the northern and eastern half of São Paulo, the Metropolitan Region of the capital of São Paulo, the Triângulo Mineiro, the center-west and east of Minas Gerais and a large part of Rio de Janeiro.

The exception is the coast of Espírito Santo and the northeast of Minas Gerais, where there is a possibility of light and isolated rain.

Midwest: heat prevails, but there is a chance of rain in MS

Tuesday will be marked by dry weather in Goiás, Distrito Federal and much of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Humidity levels should be between 20% and 30% in Goiás, Federal District, north and central-east of Mato Grosso and in the north, east and southeast of Mato Grosso.

The west, southwest and south of Mato Grosso do Sul may record isolated rain showers throughout the day, with moderate to heavy intensity. There is also a forecast of light and isolated rain in the southwest of Mato Grosso.

Temperatures remain high, mainly in Mato Grosso do Sul, south of Mato Grosso and Goiás.

Northeast: coast with rain and interior on alert for low humidity

The circulation of maritime winds keeps rain frequent in the eastern part of the Northeast.

There is a forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall between the southern coast of Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte, with a risk of storms between the coast of Paraíba and Pernambuco.

In the interior of the region, the scenario is opposite. The dry air mass keeps the weather steady, favoring low levels of humidity and increasing the risk of fires.

In areas of Bahia, Maranhão, Piauí and western Pernambuco, humidity can drop to values between 12% and 20%. Wind gusts vary between 40 km/h and 50 km/h.

North: heat and isolated showers

The combination of heat and high humidity favors rain showers in the west and north of Amazonas, in Roraima, Amapá, Rondônia and part of Pará.

The greatest risks of isolated storms are in the northwest of Amazonas and in Roraima.

Acre, Tocantins and much of the interior of Amazonas and Pará remain with firm weather and high temperatures.

In Tocantins and the center-south of Pará, the relative humidity of the air also enters a state of attention, and can be between 12% and 20%.
