A concrete mixer truck lost control and hit a public lighting pole on Thursday afternoon (16), on Avenida Ulisses Pompeu de Campos, towards Avenida Júlio Campos, in Várzea Grande.

The impact knocked structures and wiring onto the track, causing the road to be completely closed for around two hours.

According to the Várzea Grande Municipal Guard, the driver was not injured, but remained inside the truck cabin until Energisa arrived, as there was a risk of electric shock due to the live wires.

The Fire Department was also called to provide support in the incident. After the power supply was disconnected, the driver was safely removed and required hospital treatment.

During the operation, traffic was closed in both directions on Avenida Ulisses Pompeu de Campos. Drivers heading from the Zero KM region towards Avenida Júlio Campos were diverted to the Jardim Panorama neighborhood. Anyone traveling in the opposite direction had their flow redirected to the Água Vermelha neighborhood.

With the power grid shutdown, the traffic lights at the intersection of Júlio Campos, Ulisses Pompeu de Campos and Couto Magalhães avenues were also inoperative, while the Municipal Guard carried out traffic control.

After the work was completed, Energisa restored the power supply and reactivated the traffic lights. The road was completely reopened around 6pm, with traffic returning to normal in both directions.
